Job Description


The Role
The ideal candidate has strong leadership skills and maintenance experience with LDV vehicles, mobile forestry plant equipment, infrastructure and buildings. You will lead preventive maintenance programmes to ensure operational efficiency in a demanding environment.

Key Responsibilities
• Equipment Upkeep: Develop and execute preventative maintenance schedules to minimise downtime.
• Budget and Compliance: Prepare and manage the annual maintenance budget; improve productivity through innovation and optimisation of cost efficiencies.
• Safety: ensure strict compliance with Environmental and OHS-Act regulations.
• Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor mechanical technicians, artisans, and third-party service providers.
• Continuous improvement: driving continuous improvement in reliability and performance standards

Requirements


Qualifications and Expertise
• National Diploma in Engineering Sciences (Mechanical or Electrical).
• More than 6 years of relevant experience in a similar supervisory or managerial position.
• Appointment as a GMR 2(7) or GMR 2(1) responsible person (advantageous).
• Working knowledge of preventive maintenance planning systems and spares inventory.
• Knowledge and experience of sawmilling equipment and processes (advantageous).
• Knowledge and experience in fixed asset management, including buildings and infrastructure.
• Knowledge of biomass and biomass processing and beneficiation processes (advantageous).
• Working knowledge of vehicle and construction vehicle maintenance.
• Knowledge of engineering principles, practices, and methods.
• Working knowledge of budgets and cost management.
• Ability to ensure growth in turnover by focusing on effective efficiency measurements and control.
• Experience in determining maintenance specifications, quality control of delivered services, and Contractor/Supplier management.
• Working knowledge of the General Machinery Regulations (GMR 2.1/2.7).
• Working knowledge of environmental management (NEMA).
• Actively participate in developing new business opportunities.
• Computer literacy.
• Sound labour management and employee development are essential.
• Knowledge of legislation required:
o General Machinery Regulations (GMR 2.1).
o Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act).
o National Environmental Management Act (NEMA).
o Building Regulations.
