The South African Furniture Initiative (SAFI) is hosting three well-known
furniture manufacturers at its stand at the Feira International de Maputo (FACIM)
in Mozambique from 26 August to 1 September 2019.
FACIM is the largest trade show of its kind in Mozambique that attracts
companies from across Africa, Asia and Europe. This year, the Department of
Trade and Industry (the dti) has created a South African Pavilion that will host
23 companies from a diverse range of industries.
"Our attendance will not only give our participating companies exposure to the
Mozambican and African markets but will also allow us to collect valuable
feedback for other manufacturers seeking to enter this market." says Bernadette
Isaacs, the Chief Operating Officer of SAFI.
According to Isaacs, the Mozambican market is entering a growth phase and
remains an important trading neighbour and a springboard to other Lusophone
African countries, such as Angola.
Three South African furniture manufacturers will be joining SAFI in Mozambique.
Connoisseur Mouldings is a Cape-based manufacturer of custom-designed wooden
furniture, including dining sets, kitchen cabinets and business furniture such
as office desks. The company is a specialist in yacht trim and uses high-quality
raw materials such as mahogany, ebony and teak.
The second manufacturer at the event is Korck Furniture from N'Dabeni in Cape
Town. Korck is a specialist in the manufacture of high-quality timber furniture
to the hospitality industry. The company's range includes furniture for
airports, canteens, country clubs, guest houses and hotels.
Rounding off the trio of local representatives is Fechters from Knysna in the
Western Cape. Fechters is a well-known manufacturer and retailer of indoor and
outdoor furniture, with a company history that stretches back to 1936. The
company designs and manufactures a range of home and office furniture.
"Exports will become increasingly important when the African Continental Free
Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) comes into effect in 2020, which will open new
opportunities for inter-African trade, both in manufactured furniture and raw
materials. We would like to be at the forefront of these developments," says
Isaacs
