1. Rebates
A rebate is a facility provided for in the Act, subject to the compliance of specific conditions, whereby the full or Part of the duty is reduced or remitted. This reduction or remittance of duty is termed the extent of the rebate. Each rebate item has its own extent of rebate. Extent of rebate is not in itself a rate of duty but remits or reduces Customs Duties.

2. Anti-dumping and Safeguard of Case Goods
The objective is to create more access to raw materials and other
inputs for manufacturers in the furniture industry.Research to be
undertaken to determine if an application can be made in respect of
Anti-dumping and Safeguard in the manufacturing of case goods,
lounge and bedding products forchange in the tariff dispensation for
the creation of rebate on input products used by the furniture
industry in the Southern African Customs Union.

3. Prevention of illegal importation of local furniture products
The objective is to develop and implement a plan aimed at preventing
illegal import practices such as under declaration to curb the
spread of illegal imports which flood the local furniture market.All
local manufactured furniture products carry a 20% import duty. A
comparison of import data and the high volume of imported furniture
products sold in the local market revealed that there could be
incidents of illegal imports. The plan is to consult and engage
industries who have gone through similar experiences to develop a
defensive plan for the local furniture industry.
